Body and Neck: The bass ergonomic double cutaway body design is crafted in poplar with a quilted maple veneer top for aesthetics minus a scratch plate. Its poplar body may not be as appealing compared to other woods especially for bass guitar fetish because the wood is mostly linked in making inexpensive models. Poplar bodies is sonically balance and resonant by standards, but lacks drastic edge in enhancing any particular frequency range.

Neck is maple in satin finish and has a comfortable profile for playability bolt-on to the body using screws without a plate. Overlaying the neck is 24 medium jumbo size frets in jatoba fingerboard, best for bassist who are fund of playing along the higher frets.

Pick-ups: Manufacturing the sound for the Cort Action DLX Plus are PDX-4 Soap bar style pick-ups positioned on the neck and bridge controlled by a master volume, blender knob to go all out on using the neck, bridge or just in the middle to use both pick-ups and a 9v operated Active Markbass MB-1 EQ bass, mid, treble cut with a toggle going from active to passive mode. Soap bar style pick-ups is advertised to produce more harmonic depth, but that of course is for your ear to decide.

Hardware: Bridge is chrome finish, adjustable with four saddles for intonation and height adjustment with a standard string attachment. Cort’s die-cast tuners promotes stability in tuning to play each note with confidence and authority.

Final Thoughts: For beginners looking for a playable nice sounding bass, the familiarity of Cort as a brand and its instruments may or may not be on their list of top choices. Adding to that is the hefty price of the Cort Action DLX Plus compared to a Squier Affinity Series Basses or a Yamaha TRBX174 which are more affordable.

However, if you dig the finish, shape of the body as well as the neck and active electronics on the bass, the Cort Action DLX Plus is highly recommended. Having the essential qualities of a well built instrument, providing a great sound.
