Schecter Stiletto Extreme-4 Review

Those times are long gone when Schecter only makes replacement parts of guitars and basses. However thanks to that, the brand made a reputable name for itself and the transition was easy for them from just making spare parts to becoming a full-fledged musical instrument manufacturer. There are a lot of bass models to choose from Schecter and in the Stilleto alone, it is already a great collection.

Out of that series, Stiletto Extreme-4 is one of the good basses out there that don’t cost that much and comes set-up ready to play. Its bass design is unique in a way it doesn’t mimic any bass models of other manufacturers giving the Stilleto a different feel and look only to be found on this bass. The Stiletto Extreme-4 also comes available in left handed version, as well as 5-string version in left and right.

Schecter Stiletto Extreme-4 Review
  • Mahogany with a quilted maple veneer top in black cherry
  • Neck is comfortable to play crafted in maple with a thin C-shape profile
  • 24 extra jumbo frets in rosewood fingerboard with pearloid & abalone vectors
  • Set of Schecter designed tuners
  • Adjustable Diamond Bass bridge
  • Diamond Bass humbuckers placed on the neck and bridge controlled by a master volume, blend knob to go full on the bridge, neck or in between and Active 2-Band EQ bass & treble

Body and Neck: The double cutaway body of the Schecter Stiletto Extreme-4 is constructed in mahogany with a quilted maple veneer top in black cherry and see-thru black minus a scratch plate for aesthetics. Its mahogany body is small to compensate the wood’s weight, but never lacks the fat resonant sound this bass is able to produce.

Neck is comfortable to play crafted in maple with a thin C-shape profile, and trimmings bolt-on to the body using six screws without a plate. Then the neck is layered with 24 extra jumbo frets in rosewood fingerboard garnish with pearloid & abalone vectors. The long neck of this bass gives extra notes on those high frets and the XJ fret size assist for speed by its very nature to be touch lightly.

Pick-ups: Powering the Stiletto Extreme-4 are Schecter Designed Diamond Bass humbuckers placed on the neck and bridge controlled by a master volume, blend knob to go full on the bridge, neck or in between and Active 2-Band EQ bass & treble.

Hardware: Hardware are also Schecter’s own original design in black chrome finish which includes the Metal Knurled with Set-Screw for the knobs, Diamond Bass bridge and Schecter tuners holding the strings, keeping it in tune.

Final Thoughts: Schecter Stiletto Extreme-4 is a good all around bass to be use in any genre of music. It is easy to play, comfortable made of nice woods and hardware components that can last. The body shape is quite small compared to a traditional bass body, but not a problem, while the neck needs a little getting used to due to fret size and its thin shape. Overall it is a great stage ready bass for its price and for beginners who would like to own a mid-range category bass.
